Well to start with here is a little about this great product:

  • Top riser-mounted quiver
  • Multiple-hole sight-mount bracket for vertical adjustment
  • Secures using a Super Magnet that allows quick and silent attaching/detaching
  • 1-piece design
  • Lightweight magnesium stem
  • Rubber over-molded hood
  • Accommodates fixed or expandable broadheads
  • Right/Left-Hand design

Ok well I have a good reason to do a review on a quiver.  The last two years I have broken both quivers I had while on my bow.  The first one I actually tripped and landed riser down on the ground and my quiver broke in half.  I can’t really say it was the quivers fault but hey.  The second I was lowering my bow down from the treestand the arrows hit the ground first, string was too long lol, but the top of the quiver broke right off.  So as I dreamed of a new quiver I still used the old one with no holder for the heads, it worked but was not visually appealing nor very safe.  Guess what, I got a new one for xmas.  The G5 Mag loc 5 arrow quiver.  I got to install it on my bow for the last week and a half of the season.  The quiver is very easy to install, took me 2 min and it looked great on my G5 Primal bow.  The metal construction was great, and I’m pretty sure it’s not going to break any time soon.  The dampeners are great for on the bow shooting.  The magnet attachment system is soooooo quiet not like those other plastic setups.  The price is mid level for quivers which is good in my opinion.  The other features are it can be used with fixed blades or expandables, can hold any arrow size including full metal jackets, and it comes in many camo patterns.   I used it on my last five hunts and loved it.  You can also get the magnet tree bracket for easy treestand use which I find very helpful in those mainstay stands.  Overall I cannot say anything bad about this setup, its quiet, cost-effective, more than functional in every situation you find yourself in.  I highly recommend you go out and get one today, you wont regret it.

This past June, me and my family headed north to our little cabin to embark on a deer blind building project.  We spent the weekend working hard on the blind that is now called the TAJ.  The reason is we already have a Hilton.  So anyway, as we spent the weekend working hard, building the blind and our relationships I spotted my brothers hat.  This hat was camo and just above the bill it said Be Still…..  I told him I love your hat, did i ever tell you the story about that?  He said no.  I told my brother remind me later and I will so here it is later and here is the story.   It was a perfect November morning, not too cold, not too hot.  I sat perched 16 feet closer to God once again.  I sat in my stand in the dark praying for a great hunt, praying for my family, praying for protection, ectt….  The sun started to peek and a few squirrels scampered about, Even a few Turkeys came out of roost and walked by.  This morning was different than others, Why? Well because most other mornings I would have seen up to 20 deer by now.  This morning none.  As usual I was still praying, but for some reason I was I guess you would say testing God too much.  I would say prayers about having authority over the animals, prayers that God is no respector of persons and if he brought forth deer for you know so and so he should do it for my.  I was commanding deer to come to me.  Maybe this sounds weird to some but I guess I am testing my Faith as well.  After all this prayer and nothing still no deer.  It was getting later in the morning and I was ready to pack it up but I started praying again harder, testing more and more, when I heard clear as day!!! I mean clear as day!!!!! Be still and know that I am God!!!!!!!!  I instantly shut up, Not even 1 minute later here comes several deer to my right and a couple nice bucks with them.  I watched these beautiful bucks and does walk right in front of me at about 60 yards.  The deer then went out of sight..  Although I didnt’t arrow one of these giant bucks this morning, I really learned alot about God, myself, and prayer.  So I encourage you all to definatly use that time in the stand especially in the dark early in the morning when it’s dead quiet and probably the best time to hear God.  Be still, Pray, and always know he is GOD!!!!!!!!  your wildest dreams may come true.

So I am sitting at home when RING RING, my brother calls.  Hey bro would you like to come out and video for me and hunt this afternoon.  As a good brother would I accepted the offer.  My brother wanted me to bring my Conquest VS1 scent and some Buck Fever RUT along with my Doe Decoy silhouette(Montana).  I said sure thing and started packing up my stuff.  We arrive at his hunting property he recently acquired this season, he has seen a few big bucks and his partner in crime Josh had recently shot a smaller buck on a drive of the area out front.  So with excitement we head out to the woods to set up.  When we get to our spot my brother Brad starts setting up the ground blind as i go out about 40-50 yards to set up the Montana decoy between two thickets.  I get her setup, the scent lines put out and head back to the blind.  We finish setting up and settle in for little did we know an even more exciting hunt.  As I sit there in the blind looking around about 1 hour after setup, I spot an orange hat about 80 yards out.  I turn to Brad and say hey there is some orange, quickly I realized that the hunter was probably going to shoot my decoy.  Brad leans over to see the hunter and BANGGGGGGGGGGGGG I see muzzle flash, and the tree splinters fly and leaves moving on the ground about 10 yards to the right of our blind.  I quickly grab my orange hat and start waving it out the window.  The other hunter see’s the hat, realizes what he has just done, and turns around and walks We get out of the blind and he is gone.  Well to make a long story short my brother call Josh who is the local police officer as well, and they both go have a talk with the trespassing hunter.  So based on that fun story here is my top DOE DECOY HUNTING RULES!!!!!

1. When hunting deer decoys make sure you hit them so you do not feel like even more of an idiot after the shot.

2. When hunting deer decoys make sure you find out if anyone is hurt before walking away ashamed.

3. When hunting deer decoys make sure there are no huge blinds around.

4. When hunting deer decoys make sure there are no orange hats, vests, gloves, suites, ect in the woods around it.

5. When hunting deer decoys make sure your not trespassing.

6. When hunting deer decoys make sure the decoy has no legs.

7. When hunting deer decoys make sure you have a bag with you to fold it up and pack away to take home after killing.

8. When hunting deer decoys make sure you have cash on you to buy from actual owner after killing it.

9. When hunting deer decoys make sure it doesn’t move, walk, run, tail flicker, eat, turn head, before shooting it.

10. When hunting deer decoys make sure you have a lot of tenderizor cause that is going to be tough to swallow.

Oh ya just so you know this is not the first time have experienced this.  A few years back me and Ronnie (Team Dirt Member) were on a local goose hunt when another hunter crawled through the reeds, popped up, and shot a number of our goose decoys sitting on the water.  Then realizing our decoys were not dead just sinking with all the shot in them, crawled away without saying a word.. We did catch up with him as well and it all worked out, but just be careful cause you never know when you will encounter a Decoy Hunter!!!

Hunting hard or Hardly hunting?

So as I sit here reminiscing on my 2010 hunting season I’ve realized its been really hard hunting this season.  The weather has not cooperated at all, its been windy, rainy, snowy, and cold.  I’m not just talking 15-20 mph winds but I’ve been out in 65 mph winds.  Crazy,  right?  Well, when you only have x amount of days a year to hunt,  time in the woods is at a premium.  You have to subtract work, family time, and don’t forget the honey do’s.  I remember one weekend while we were up at our cabin, we had just came in from the morning hunt and after breakfast I had turned on some hunting shows.  After watching show after show I realized there was a common pattern.  They kept mentioning how hard they had been hunting that week, as I though about that for a minute it kinda got under my skin a bit.  Hunting hard!!!  They are on a ranch where they specifically grow monster bucks, they have a guide tell them where the best spots are or at least have trail cam pictures of where to hunt.  Now I totally respect that they have to run from place to place, hunt to hunt, to get enough film for the tv show.  Matter a fact I love watching the shows, but If I hunted the same ranch for the same period of time pretty sure I would come out of there with a buck of my lifetime too.   I was thinking, imagine that!!   how it would be fun to have one of the TV show crews come to my home state of Michigan, give them the topo maps of the local state game area, and let them hunt in the rain, snow, sleet, wind, you know unexpected weather and see if they could pull a good buck from there in the same 7 day period.  You know hunt hard, no guide, no fence, no 40 acre food plots, you get the picture right?  Now I don’t doubt some of their hunting skills, and im pretty sure there are a few of them that would produce, but if I were a betting man my money would be on the deer!!!   I’m not saying they don’t work hard at all, im just saying they usually are given the best possible opportunity to get that big buck.  Remember, when you hit your favorite woods to hunt hard, you know where the big deer are, most people just don’t want to go there.  Hunt hard!!!! or are you hardly hunting?

Thanks for reading, I would appreciate feedback

Imported Sugar Beets In Michigan!!! REALLY?????

OK   REALLY???? This past weekend I was back at it, deer hunting on our property in Manistee, MI.  After hunting the first day we decide to run to town and pick up a few bags of sugar beets to put out for the deer.  We pull in to the local trading post and see lots of sugar beets piled up by the gas pump, the front door, out by the road.  The first thing that got our attention was the fact that up until this week of hunting the sugar beets were $5.99 a bag or 3-$15.  Look on the counter and lo and behold now they are 3 bags for $18.. Kinda like the gas price gouging I would say but whatever that’s another topic.  We buy the bags and throw them in the back of the truck.  I look on the bag and lo and behold it says Grown in USA… Grown in Mexico.  The grown in Mexico box was checked.  First thing that came to my mind was usually people use old onion bags to put beets in and that is what it was Mexico onion bags with sugar beets in them.  After further review, nope nice little Mexican looking fellow with the absolute fact that these are actually Mexico grown Beets.  OK just so people know, Sebewing Michigan is the sugar beet CAPITAL OF THE WORLD.  The CAPITAL OF THE WORLD… So why is it that we have Mexico grown sugar beets in Michigan at all.  I love the fact that we can keep other countries economies going but let our own Michigan growers suffer because of it.  I will never buy those beets again after noticing this and I guess if there are no beets except those the deer will get some sort of American carrots, apples, corn who knows. This is ridicules we need to stop the madness.   Please comment your thoughts, please subscribe to my blog, tell friends, and have a great day.
